Today we are unveiling the Vitals & Ventures series, where I’ll be presenting insights and progress from my personal health and fitness journey, medical school endeavors, financial milestones, and other personal highlights.

The Purpose

In my view, doctors are responsible for improving everyone's health, but how can we do that if we don't take care of our own health? We sacrifice so much time studying and learning about medicine to help people that we often become shortsighted, unable to see that we have been neglecting our own health.

If we want to improve the health of those around us, we must inspire them to be healthier by following our examples, and to do this we must bring the wealth of medical wisdom into everyday life and optimize whatever is possible.

The Vitals & Ventures series is my attempt to create a healthier world and encourage more people to do the same. I’m excited to share my progress and hope you find these updates both informative and inspiring, so that you can bring medical knowledge to your daily journey and hopefully create your own blog to also encourage more people to follow this path.

Vital Stats

Here are my current stats:

Body Composition

  • Weight: 64.8 kg
  • BMI: 22.4
  • Body Fat: 10 kg (15.4%)
  • Muscle Mass: 50.50 kg (78%)
  • Visceral Fat: 8.0

Body Measurements

  • Arm size (right): 37 cm
  • Waist: 82 cm
  • Thigh size (right): 47.5 cm

In my view there is a lot of room for improvement. For now, I would really like to lose some fat and bring my visceral fat indicator down as much as possible.

Performance & Aesthetic Wellness

After a long time without training and following a proper diet, I decided to join a gym. I haven't followed a strict program, but I could see a huge transformation happening since I started. All I have done was to hit the gym 4 times per week, doing mostly an AB routine (back/biceps/posterior and chest/triceps/quads).

Starting this month, I will now base my meals on ground meat, vegetables and fruits. I will also keep my intermittent fasting routine, as I only eat once, later in the day.

The great news in this section is that my lovely girlfriend and I are building our own home gym. In fact, I just installed a Rogue Pull-Up Bar last week. Hopefully, after we finish building our home gym, I will be able to train more consistently and improve my stats.

Medical School

  • Total: 9,654 reviews
  • Days studied: ⁨90⁩ of ⁨90⁩ (⁨100⁩%)

Most of the reviews happened before the end July, when I had some finals. After that I got into summer mode and didn't study much. Actually, I've traveled a lot and all I brought with me was Oxford Handbook for Medical School. I also answered some anatomy cards I had prepared but did not much more than that.

It's good to be back to another semester after such a nice European summer, I feel that my energy levels have been restored and I'm very excited to start studying hard again.

Finances

Total Wealth: € 424.08

I have always enjoyed to talk about economics, investments and finances. In fact, I have a huge background in this area. Now that I'm starting this series to inspire people to be healthier I want to do this in a very accessible manner. There would be no point in following a healthier anti-aging approach if it meant sacrificing future resources that would end up suffocating our long-term lifestyle. It has to be accessible, and it has to make us prosper.

Right now I only have one income source: my family. I have been receiving 780 euros per month from them, which is more than sufficient for me to live well while studying and pursuing my health goals. Since august I no longer have to pay rent, but I do have to pay my part of the apartment bills and all costs related to the medical school.

In this wallet I won't include any money I earned before starting the Vitals & Ventures series, nor will I ever include inheritance or other incomes that could distort our wealth accumulation metrics.

During this quarter, I spent a lot of money traveling with my younger brother. I also had to spend some money on apartment renovations as I live in a fairly old building. It is far from finished, but I prefer doing it slowly one thing at a time.

In August, I successfully added 311.58 to my portfolio, while in September I added 108 more. I honestly think it's pretty good considering I'm earning 780 € / month. In the futures Vitals & Ventures I will share more insights on where and how I spend money.

Personal Insights

During my first years of medical school I was living very close to my university. This year I've decided to enroll in fewer subjects (about 75% of a normal year) and move to another Village with my girlfriend.

Now we have more time to take care of ourselves, cook, eat well, train, get some sun, study calmly and enjoy our time together. In our Village we live by the ocean and do everything on foot, the only downside is that our university is one hour away.

Everything is going pretty well. I'm very happy with where I am in my life at this moment. I'm not rushing in any way and feel very balanced with my approach to life.

We’ll finish up here, but the reality starts now. I hope you enjoyed this article in some way. I hope you learned something, had fun, reflected, or envisioned something that can improve your own life. If you have any insights, please share them in the comments or feel free to contact me.

Here's to a healthier tomorrow.
